그들은 일년 내내 만나지 않았어요. They didn’t meet a year long.

* While you are doing […], an unexpected thing happens alongside the event of [A], where [A] happens abruptly. When the subject of both actions is the same, we use “다가”. If the subject changes, use “는데”, which means “by the way”.
길을 걷다가 그를 우연히 만났어요. I met him by accident while walking on the street.
만나러 오다가 아는 사람을 만나서 늦었어요.
I am late because I met an acquaintance while I came to meet you.
먹다가 체했어요. I have an upset stomach while eating it.
걷다가 친구가 저를 불러서 멈췄어요.
I stopped because my friend called me while I was walking.
여행하다가 감기에 걸렸어요. While I was traveling, I caught a cold.
여행하다가 그를 만났어요. I met him while I was traveling.
집에 가다가 그를 만났어요. I saw him while I was going home.
